menta. pedicellata, tripartite vel pinnatifida, varie - incisa, lobis ultirais cuneatis vel
late iinearibus. -Scapi pilis pateutibus hirsuti, 4-8-uncialcs. Pedicellus terminalis
nudus, laterales bracteis 2 oblongis integris vel inciso-dentatis involucellati. Sepala
6-6, obovata, -|~uncialia, crerulcscentia.
8.  A. trullifolia (H.f. et T.); foliis late ovalibus basi rotundatis
vel subcordatis trilobis, lobis obtuse tridentatis, involucri trifolii foliis
oblongis subinteguis vel profunde trilobis, floribus 1-3, aclieniis ovali-
bus subcompressis rigide pilosis.

Tota plnuta dense pilosa. Radix crassa, valida, sublignosa. Folia c collo cras-
sissimo, reliquiia folioram fibrosis involulo, pluriraa. Petioli late vagiuantes, foliis
breviores, rarius clongati. Folia obtusis-sima, subiutcgra vel plu^ minus profuude
triloba, rarius piiiuatisecta, l>—3-uncialia. Scapi infra folia uidiilantcs vel elongati
pcdalcs liliforincs prostrati. luvolucri folia magnitadinc valde vaiia, Ftosterwi-
nalis nudus, latcralium pedicellis involuccllo e foliis 2 oblongis iudivisis constante
muuitis. Sepala 6-8, ex sicco aurea e\*tua pnllide coirulca, obovata vel oblonga,
•i-1-iin.cialia, cxtos adpresse scricea. *-Achrtna parva, ovalia, subcompressa, stylo
undo apiculata, setis strigosis crcctis hispidis tccta.
This species closely resembles in habit the next, but the leaves ia all our speci-
mens, which are from many localities, arc very different. The ncheuia scarcely differ.

A. very widely diffused plaut iu Western Himalaya, flowering on the grassy slopes
of the mbnntoms in early spring, as soon as the snow has melted, Like most very
common plants, it varies a good deal in size and degree of hairiness; but these va-
riations depen.d chiefly on situation, and perhaps on the age of the plant. The dif-
